After her captivating debut EP The Inconsolable Isolation Of Intimacy, TIARE returns with her second EP, Black Unicorn. Inside, four atmospheric songs highlight a poetic, lyrical vision imbued with a truth that only the best songs manage.
The EP’s opening title track, Black Unicorn is an evocative magical mystery with a melody that only dreams are made of. A forgotten memory relived and then forgotten again, is it a recurring sweet dream or a haunting nightmare? If I Fall reveals a carefree beat, a musical nonchalance that frames a deep disregard of the wrong doer. Secrets is a loved one taken away in a waltz through the heart. Finally comes the inevitable Darkness that doesn’t scare you but entices you to give yourself up willingly to its unknown mysteries.
These memorable tunes are augmented by Englishman, Marty Willson-Piper, expat Steve Kilbey and New Zealander Tim Powles, from Australian based cult band the church. Ricky Maymi from San Francisco’s own Brian Jonestown Massacre adds to the list of guest musicians as does Doug Yowell from New York’s Suzanne Vega Band who volunteered for the project after hearing her first EP. Two tracks feature some wonderful cello from renowned Australian cellist Steve Meyer. Tiare shows off her skills as a multi-instrumentalist playing electric and acoustic guitars, drums and piano.
The cover art is like a Spanish episode of Dr Who created and designed by Tiare herself. Her talents know no end and everyone that hears her music is immediately smitten.
Let this Darwin born Swedish-Polynesian princess wash over you, transport you through European intrigues and South Seas mysteries stopping time itself. Like a book you can’t put down, hours fly away under the spell of this chanteuse from paradise beckoning you with her angelic voice to follow her stories across the continents.
